Guys, please give him a break.
He obviously has questions and is confused.
The way he expresses his concerns and questions seems to be aggravating some of you.
It isn't just him, but most newbies including myself would be confused with similar observations and experiences.

Let me ask his question in a more palatable manner:

    1. Why there is such a difference between a normal boss and a hard level boss? 10 or more times health, about 5 times more damage (seems like 50 times more difficult  )

    2. What do we gain by killing the hard boss as compared to the normal boss. Why would anyone consider spending such a long time killing the hard boss as compared to killing the normal boss. (Please note myself and many other newbies have never ever killed these hard bosses at least once)

I don't believe anyone that reads through the forum could accuse the community of being harsh to new folks. Just the opposite in fact. We openly and very willingly help folks with questions. At some point though there is an expectation that the obvious comes into play, that people will take an interest enough in finding answers before spamming the forum with the same question, and that answers are not a point of argument for the people that ask them. If this had been his first such post then that would be different. But, its not.

    1. The hard bosses have improved drop rates, uniques not offered anywhere else, and their levels are generally much higher than original forms. They should be hard, hence the term "difficult" when you enter their lair.

    2. Higher XP, Boss dependent Uniques, higher level loot and increased drop rate.

I think the root of this odd ball boss is his origin story. His origin was as the end-game boss prior to the Atlantis expansion. Since he wasn't properly rolled into a Parallel World, he ended up being this strange boss anomoly. On top of that, his long bow was pretty impressive for about half a microsecond before realizing how slooooow it was compared to a decent short bow. So you have a boss designed to be the Mortis of his day that never was folded into the Ammon quest line. That is why he has an insane amount of HP. Also keep in mind he is a very very long walk from RCC if you don't have premium and a good teleport map. He was purposely designed to be hard to get to and hard to kill. He is fine. I have my fingers crossed he is folded into Ammon's PW series for level 50 expansion but that is probably too much to ask. There are still good reasons to go and visit him. If, let's say you have a mid-20s beast of a PVP twink, you may want to pay him a visit just to crank up some easy XP before heading off to Ocean at level 30 or use his drops as easy glyph melts because his doorway is simply the easiest refresh for any decent boss in DSO.

Because your character is too weak
No it is not ... he has armor as well which is too much for you.
    You ... obviously. :D
    Not quite.
Normal and difficult bosses are giving same amount of XP. The reason why Herald and Sigy are giving more XP is because they are level 40 (normal mode level 30/35). But Gorga for example is level 40 both on hard and normal mode ... thus it gives same amount of XP.

All of which are completely pointless unless you collect uniques. XP is practically the same and is level dependent. So why can't we solo difficult bosses if they are mostly useless to us? If you're talking cubes, the drop rate might increase by 5-10% at most, which isn't a big deal. Especially if you compare that to defeating normal bosses, which give same exp and are easier to kill?
can't use higher level loot, might as well wait until you get up to that level.
Why don't people say things that make sense?

Also, certain events (defeat the undefeatables?) have killing the hard bosses as event quests for characters above maybe level 39 to below maybe level 45.

You're right, we should just get rid of hard bosses, they're pointless. There's no point in killing things that might drop items that would improve your character:confused: Hey wait aren't you the one that wanted them to do the DOE event again already?:D Seems thats just killing hard bosses to get items. So lets just get rid of that too. No one would want that unless they collect uniques.

If that event ever happens... though I'm not going to solo anything but heredur, if that's even possible.

A bow that you wouldn't be able to use for another 5 levels anyway...? The other point is that the Hard bosses were never meant to solo. When LVL 40 was the cap, it was a personal challenge/status symbol to be able to solo the 4 difficult bosses. It was usually done by people using reds or doing runs that lasted 20-30 min. Granted this was before the advent of the Glyph system that allows twinks to rule the arena, but could also allow these people to have OP enough gear to do what was once almost impossible, but even today, it would take an incredibly impressive LVL 35 to do it. Either find a group of LVL 40-45s who don't mind carrying a LV 35, or go spend tons of ander on gems/gear/glyphs.

For Example from back in the day:

These are toons who were at their pinnacle and you are nowhere close.

It might not be. you'll have to check the wiki on your own, but somewhere in the low 40s levels (i want to say at levels 42-43) the only quest was kill each of the 3 hard bosses.

Ill jump in...Dude..do you simply not understand what these experiend players are telling you..your char is simply not high enough damage..then farm upgrade ..make bigger rubys..upgrade dame gear a nice ring ..whatever ya need to gain more stats..then go back to him in normal mode..if ya take him down faster..greta..reset and enter in hard mode...you should see a difference in your chars ability..but to argue dso and the experienced players...is foolish..ok..i have just over 1000 damage and run 980 cryt on thaty..woopie yeah , compared to others who are premium and buy ander, then enter game see gem gurl, further buy slots..add big gems, and are wayyy stronger and way more stable..seems very straight forward..i am not premium, have 9 slots to farm..im working on 1 million gops for an orb that is taking me all month, and with my method of farming and what I bring back . I have managed to get my sw strong enough to tank him on hard mode solo , yes I have to run abit and health pot, but you see , why are you stubborn to the above threads, you are the one who cannot see, very....simple..advise, well said Bigpapa, you tell him, ..hahahahaha..:)

:) I love it! DesertKoala not only possess an intricate knowledge of the game but can articulate that knowledge with a touch of humor and without stepping on others toes. Only a few others like that around. Hopefully I'll be forgiven my obvious envy...at least this once:).

I have to say, while I think the OP is trolling some (maybe s/he isn't and I just don't get it), the discussion on Herald has been interesting and the posts, particularly by the experienced players, entertaining. Thank you all. :)

  18. Ok. So, after a couple of pages of intellectually stimulating debate, we've finally concluded the following:

    Hard boss = hard.
Normal boss = not so hard.

Beautiful. Issue resolved. Case closed. Next topic...
