Excuse me but... how many mages have you seen with that amount of dmg? I saw only 1 and that's a testserver account... I'm very interested now.

I am a f2p mage and I can say that the arrow hits a lot.... BUT it's hard to aim with, it costs some big concentration and be honest, if that arrow 1hits you as a warrior, then something's really wrong with your defense.

BTW Monday warriors can search some new gear, as def enchantments from PW items are much higher so they will get an advantage... we'll see what it gives

This has gone very much pear shape.... I know one thing, BigPapa is one of the most mature (attitude wise), respectful people I have ever known in the game. I am no ranger, in fact, my char is a DK, I, therefore, am not defending any class in this argument, nor am I going to get involved in this. The only reason I thought I would step in, is me knowing for a fact, that BigPapa is always very fair in the most dramatic circumstances and arguments, giving others the benefit of the doubt and listening to their opinions.

The whole topic is sour... PvP is broken badly, thus these heated arguments take place. Another thing, most of players who write on here are very intelligent people, it's a pity to see such heavy disagreements and personal attacks in their attempts to be heard.

Those were the top mages and rangers. Of course you don't see a 7k mage and 3.5k ranger everyday because most of the players have like: 5k for good mages and 2k-2.5k for rangers (with longbow for pve setup)
I've seen many mages I've grouped with on heredur, having 5k dmg. At least that's what they told me. And when they start spamming the ice sphere on the mobs, it looks so effective, they die pretty easy.

It's very easy with a good 2h staff to get huge dmg. If my noob mage level 27 can get 1k dmg with a blue staff 80% dmg with no gems in it and 2-3 crap legendary items with terrible values, 2-3 pink and the rest blue, then imagine an endgame mage, with good items and a few months of farming under his belt.

But it's not that I think mages, tanks and dwarves' 2h weapons should be nerfed, I'm just saying this so you can see that rangers have disadvantages too. Sure we have more crit from the quiver and also 20% concentration from the longbow, combined with cool skills, but is this worth the 2-3k dmg difference? ... debatable... because it's not a straightforward answer when so many variables are involved.

You are comparing apples and bananas. I can reach close to 6k dmg max, close to 5k min on my mage on the main server, but this is in 2h mode. I would never step 1v1 against ranger in such setup. 1 handed numbers are equal (a little bit more base dmg on weapon vs 5% weapon speed). Trust me, top mages and rangers have identical number in terms of offence in their PVP setups. The fact that archers have no 2h options like mages do is sad and unfair, but it has nothing to do with their duel.

they want people to buy gems on all their chars. More chars = more $$$ for them

Yes, maybe I wasn't explicit enough in my last post, because I wasn't refering to pvp, but to pve setups, because for me pve is more fun and I would like to have the other classes dmg with my ranger but I can't get that by using a longbow.
Like I said in an earlier post, of course in pvp typically everyone will use 1h weapons and a shield / quiver so in that respect all classes are somewhat balanced.

Maybe they don't want to give us 2h bows because we would do 600% dmg with EA + 2h bow (maybe 6k base dmg) = very big dmg.
And yes the EA takes a lot of concentration, but in pve that's not such a big problem because you can regenerate with deadly blow by killing mobs. So if rangers got 6k base dmg with the current EA skill + constant regeneration, maybe that would be OP.
But I would like to see maybe 15% increase in dmg on the longbow

Yes, you right, they might have decided to do some pve compensation but didn't think of what would that mean to pvp. Like the following - 1. pre155 ranger was struggling against warrior, and had lower total dmg per minute than mage - okay, let's give him one super skill to compansate that (valid) gap. They didn't think of what would that mean to mage vs archer duel.
    2. Mages and tanks have 2h weapons so can go extreme damages in PvE and archer cannot. Let give them super skill to compensate. And again they didn't think of what would that mean for 1v1 mage vs archer.

Despite the original reasoning is 100% valid, no questions.

I would rather give archers normal 2h to address #2, and armor break on trap/bird plus some not so crazy lvl50 skill and an ability to generate concentration/decrease cooldowns if hit or something like that. Something smarter than raw damage on 1 skill. Some skills that would engage archer in the fight, and also give them ability to do an active fight not forcing into a run mode to restore concentration.

Nope, never going to happen according to the CMs. It was also covered in the most recent Twitch.

That being said, I wouldn't mind if they made a one time opportunity for you to transfer gems to the new archetype (or the SM) once you hit LVL 50 with it because you may really like the new class but don't want to abandon the main toons that they spent years developing your original toon. I like my SM a lot, but I won't switch because I'd lose all the work I've put into my DK. I think that there are very few endgame SMs compared to the other three classes for this very reason and implementing something like this would be a great way to make sure that there are plenty of endgame variants of the new class when it comes.

Good video, does no represent pvp tho. not trying to ignite anything, i am done with balance discussions for now. but i wonder how direct face to face tanking would go on same defence builds and if the same ranger had 2500 damage with 40% up crit rate. i wonder how it will go with same attack builds too.

And you are going to leave me alone against those maestros of the word?)

Okay guys. Lets forget about OP skills or classes. Assuming I'm a complete noob, I would appreciate your advice on the mage strategy in the following situation.

I am a mage, fighting archer 1v1 in an open field (kingshill arena or whatever). Archer has similar/equal, just more HP. To make the task easier, we both are dragan+shield setup, 0 critical hit.

Archer strategy is to exchange few shots (the speed is equal) so it is a mark and two EA against 3 fireballs. Archer stays outfield, out of reach of the new sphere or the frost wind. Running speed is the same. After the exchange, archer runs off the field to restore. Archer engages mage again once reached 100% concentration. Another 3 shot round, and so on.

There was a concensus in other language thread that in an three shot exchange archer would be a clear winner. So mage has to do something in addition to that. The only somewhat reasonable reply was that mage can engage the archer once in 30 seconds using triple teleport combined with stuns. Archers can use that short distance to his advantage as well, as the angle for the mark and EA widens. Archer is using a bird as a field control measure in such a scenario and runs away.

Assuming they have equal travel speed, both have enough of anti-stun measures, archer is able to keep using this hit&run strategy.

Please advice on mage strategy against such an archer. The fight usually ends with mage (my noob mage) dead and archer still in 50% of hp or so.

The advices I have seen so far were:
    1. Run faster
    2. Shot better
    3. Maneuver better
    4. Go 2 handed
    5. Use some other magic.
    6. Farm

My question includes an assumption, that mage should not be better in running or whatever to win. Mage should not be better in shoting, or have more glyphs. The assumption is that with the all stats, experience, and play-skills equal or very close, the win-loss ratio should be close 50-50. Assuming the balance is there, no skills are OP, the only reason of me losing most of the times is that I have no idea how to play mage vs archer post r155. Please advice, and I would appreciate reasonable responces, and hopefully the thread will not go into something is OP discussion.

hi guys and cms just a quick question why did you turn pvp into 1 hit dead arena there is no skill in this and it is very sad that end game players must put up with this before 155 it was fun and we all put up with mage blowing himself up and killing all but still was better than this please can you let me know what you have planned to address this mess regards

    Hi CM Haruki!

I was watching the most recent Twitch regarding the Christmas event. It was mentioned we'll still be able to fight Big Paws. I'm wondering if we'll still need to farm Snow Ess from snowmen for it. Just wanted to know if I'm going to have players getting mad at me for hogging all the snowmen on a map until I have enough to do the event again. XD

Guess last 30 pages here are related to your question) was never answered though, but we have seen promises to address that with r158. From what I saw in the release notes, r158 is far from adressing this though)

Tell you how to kill me, I wouldn't dare. Oh yes I would:D. For you my friend, you bet and since it's not an OP discussion all the better.

Your tactics--You have me beat on stuns-vs cooldowns, general mobility, and footspeed interrupts. I have two stun breaks that you need to see me use because you froze me. Your whole goal during initial phase of the match should be to get me to use those stun breaks in quick succession. Once you do that get me in a singularity and im toast. Keeping me slow is also a nice trick if you can mix main MM or fireball shots with ice missle. You will have to be able to take a hit as im gonna be throwing everything i have at you if im in a singularity and cant dive out, including the bird so have your own stun break still available. If I get close try to restun unload the farm fast and get away. Standing there till i come out of stun break is endgame for you. If you stay close, you have vastly increase the radials I can use to hit you, not to mention any melee attacks I have on the bar are now available and they dont use concnetration.
My tactics--To be honest I use the bird as a cooldown/additional time helper, not as a damage dealer or stun tool. As, most likely ,people run when its thrown and it gives me time to get out of a singularity, slow or rebuild concentration. I will keep you at a distance if im able to hit you due to slow footspeed, if you try to close ill throw wolves or bird at you to make you run away again. I dont care if you charm a wolf cause the others will attack it and I'll get some healing. If I can't hit you at a distance because you're mobile or too fast on foot, I'll try to get a lucky stun with our useless net or run you into a corner, and then close the distance so your Ice sphere wont explode on me. Explosion range for IS is no mans land, i need to be further or closer. If I try to close the distance I know i will need a stun break available as you will freeze me when i do get close. Also as I close, if you start to shoot me and I'm not in no mans land, I will also stop and shoot relying on Higher HP. If in no mans land and you shoot, I will either go back out to distance or push through it and try to get close, but I won't return fire. All the above applies comments about distance would then be used depending on that action. If you are crazy fast on foot, i will use spreadshot/Multi-shot and try to hit and run widdling you down over time. It has the same restricted range as your IS but is faster and I will rely on my own footspeed to not get hit.

For my Ranger Bro's-sorry if I ruined anything for you, but this is what makes PVP fun and it's one of the reason's I play all char classes. The more you know about the enemy and their skills the better challenger you can be.

Are there any plans to buff DK's tankiness?

All of the bosses of the current event (dragan and the 4 statues) HEAVILY PUNISH MELEE.

What is the role for DK in this game. DK has same base damage (= less real world damage), same tankiness and no range.

Note, that since DK has the same base damage, it in fact does LESS damage because you have to constantly dodge 1 hit kill boss attacks.
Also any ranged class can perch, kite, abuse safe spots on the map and get free hits on any enemy while the enemy runs toward them.

What role does it fulfill in this game beyond being underpar
Have the Devs ever played this game on DK. I honestly want them to compare the difficulty of fighting a heredur statue, a sargon statue or Dragan hard on a DK vs any other class.

  20. _Baragain_

    _Baragain_ Living Forum Legend

When fighting the statue bosses (at least Sargon and Heredur), if you sit there and take it, that is your fault. They are so slow and predictable that killing them without taking a single hit is not just possible, it is easy. If anything, I'd say that it is easier for a DK to tank these bosses and kill them solo than any other class could. SWs and RAs would spend more time dodging than attacking because they could take even less hits. Only the SM would have an easier time because they could use turrets/shrapnal shot while running in tight circles around the bosses to avoid the hits. And when it comes to Dragan, same story, I'd hate to solo him with a SW or RA, but with a good SM, it would be rather fun.
